The sailors of the Azov military flotilla showed unparalleled courage in the defense of the Taganrog Bay, the mouth of the Don from the Wehrmacht armies rushing to Novorossiysk and further into Transcaucasia. On their small vessels, they penetrated deep into the occupied territory, causing huge damage to the enemy.
The naval artillery covered the land units of the Red Army, hardly restraining the onslaught of the enemy superior in numbers and quality of weapons. Boats, patrol boats of the flotilla provided communication between the mainland and the "Little Earth".
The monument, inaugurated in 1975, is a reminder to the descendants of the immortal feat of the heroes of the dead battles. A torpedo boat is placed on a high pedestal near the River Station. The pedestal is beveled along the longitudinal axis. From this it seems that the warship, with its nose up, rushed at full speed into a deadly attack.
